CMC explains why yesterdays performance against Reading may have change Town’s fortunes for the better?

The match against 3rd placed Reading was seen by many as an easy win for the away side, against an out of form Ipswich Town (who languished in 17th before the start of the game).

On Radio Suffolk a fan who had not been to the match rang in to ask the score. When he heard that it was a draw he said he couldn’t believe what all the fuss was about with regard to the preceding phone calls.

What all the fuss was about, for the loyal fans who turned out to support the team, was a superb team performance. This was epitomised by the passionate leadership of our so nearly departed captain Luke Chambers, who charged around the pitch like a hungry lion – determined to lead the side and win every ball, using every second available for the Ipswich cause. He was magnificent and totally deserves a new contract.

This was a completely different performance from Ipswich and credit must go to Mick McCarthy for successfully signing and then weaving into the team two really good loan players – Emyr Huws and Toumani Diagouraga, who had excellent games, displaying neat passing skills and showing a real desire to push forward.

The whole team played well from start to finish and I could mention each and every one but David McGoldrick and Tom Lawrence were absolutely brilliant today linking up well together. And then there were two more amazing goals from Tom Lawrence, the second thanks to an exceptional through ball from magician McGoldrick.

The crowd were wonderful. cheering and chanting throughout and creating the best atmosphere for ages. It really was a Saturday to enjoy and there wasn’t a boo in sight.

So to those, like our friend on Radio Suffolk, who missed the game but who must complain, it may seem like an insignificant 2:2 draw, yet to those who went it was so much more and it was a day when Mick put together a motivated a team aimed at being better than a team currently 3rd in the league. He’s done that and with very limited funds and up against intense and harsh criticism in the process.

Come back to Portman Road everyone! Stop the campaigns, banners and attempts to abandon everything we have. Today was seriously exciting and to destroy what we saw today would be the last thing true fans want. Put your reality head on!

This was the best Saturday for many months so let’s enjoy it!

CMC.
