Ipswich Town’s Worst Performance This |Season

This was Ipswich Town’s worst performance of the season. These were manager Mick mcCarthy’s words not mine but I share that view.

Less than 14,000 turned out on a wet Suffolk afternoon to see the Blues ‘worst performance of the season’, as described by Mick McCarthy, after he finally appeared for the press conference. He had needed extra time to calm down before facing many critics and his frustration was clear for all to see on the touchline throughout what was a thoroughly dreadful game.

The attractive football came from the bottom side Burton Albion, who would have won had Bart not saved us with crucial saves yet again. His signature for the verbally agreed deal is very much needed now!

It wasn`t until the 80th minute that Ipswich had their first shot on goal and this was greeted with ironic cheers from the crowd who were by then thoroughly frozen and fed up.

Anti Mick chants reverberated around the ground once more but you do have to feel that the 11 players on the field should take a lot of responsibility for this very disappointing performance. Mick showed more passion on the touchline than most of the players showed on the field.

Rumours that Mick is favourite to take over at Barnsley were rife with many supporters hoping this will happen – though Mick insists he is here till the end of the season and says there`s a “good chance” he`ll be with us next.

We played like a relegated team with no pattern and no inspiration. The confidence wasn`t there and all over the pitch, negativity seems to have taken over. Burton, by contrast, were bright and full of optimism. We are just lucky that we have as many points as we do, as without them we could be in serious trouble at the bottom end of the table by now.

Bizarrely I suspect a similar team will play completely differently against Norwich next weekend. So much is about belief and expectation. Yesterday there was none of it and we all left fed up – including Mick McCarthy who claimed he was “cool” about taking criticism for the team.
