Ipswich Step Up A Gear

In his latest blog, CMC tells us how it felt to be a Town fan witnessing the revival of the Tractor Boys!

A slow foggy journey to Ipswich was made worthwhile for over 15,000 fans, as a much-improved team deservedly beat Bristol City 2-1 at Portman Road.

Mick McCarthy made changes to the team; including Kevin Bru and Myles Kenlock and it paid dividends, with Bru putting Town in front after sustained pressure.

Bristol City equalised but Mick showed his footballing acumen by bringing on substitutes who all lifted the team. André Dozzell who showed the crowd why he is so highly rated with some very attractive running and passing and Freddie Sears came on and within minutes could have had a hat-trick.

The winner was spectacular when it came and was an overhead kick by Brett Pitman who, like the rest of the team, had worked tirelessly throughout the game. The very supportive crowd exploded with delight!

Praise should go to Luke Chambers, not only for blocking a near-certain goal but also for his passionate leadership again. Luke has played out of position for three years and has had to endure criticism from fans for doing his best there. He offers much to the team and his passes and crosses are a constant threat to our opposition. He is one of the best captains we have had in my view.

Mick came out of this match really well with his positive tactics and the players played very much better than against Fulham. The supporters were also excellent – particularly the vocal North Stand.

The January transfer window will be important for Ipswich and with some astute signings, we can push into the top half of the table.

An encouraging note then to end 2016.

Happy New Year to Marcus, Mick, all the players and all Ipswich fans wherever you are.

CMC.
