Ipswich Set To Lose Their Manager

The chances of Mick McCarthy becoming the Republic of Ireland manager became greater today when Giovanni Trapattoni was summoned to meet FA! chiefs following their defeat in Austria last night.

The Italian is expected to be sacked, even though he is contracted until next June and he would be in line for a £900,000 pay out, before the Irish complete their Wold Cup qualifying group matches next month.

McCarthy has been linked with a return to the hot seat, although Martin O’Neill is a popular choice among Irish fans.

McCarthy is expected to be quizzed about the situation on Friday ahed of Town’s home game with Middlesbrough.
