Goalkeeper Shane Supple is on the verge of joining League Two strugglers Grimsby Town on loan, but the switch is almost definitely being held up Ipswich’s move for a replacement keeper.

The young Irishman has been back-up to number one glovesman Richard Wright in all but one game this season, and has been expected to leave on a temporary basis for the most part of 2008/09. He was expected to join the Mariners sometime today on a month’s loan.

However, a statement from the Grimsby club site read: ‘It was hoped that the 21-year-old stopper would be at Blundell Park today and training with the Mariners tomorrow, but there has been a last minute hitch at the Suffolk club and the move has now been put on hold.’

Supple spent time on loan at SPL club Falkirk last season, but only played in four games.
