Ipswich Pursuing A New Pablo?

Press reports claim that Ipswich Town are considering a loan move for West Bromwich Albion defender Pablo Ibanez.

Centre-back Ibanez, sometimes referred to as Pablo, joined West Brom from Atletico Madrid last summer but has fallen out of favour since Roy Hodgson took over as manager in February. The 30-year-old has won 23 caps for the Spanish national team, most recently in 2008.

Town boss Paul Jewell is likely to be stepping up his search for a new centre back in particular after watching his defence collapse in the 5-2 defeat to Southampton on Tuesday night. Should he swoop for Ibanez, Town fans will have an excuse to revive the old ‘Ole Pablo’ chant formerly sung about departed striker Pablo Counago.

Another defender who could be heading to Portman Road is Ibrahima Sonko, who was linked with the Blues last week. Town are said to be lining up a contract offer for the 30-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Stoke City at the end of last season.
