Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has fired a warning to Town’s Championship rivals ahead of Saturday’s big kick off.

The Blues boss is confident Town won’t be handed the sort of drubbing they suffered in the past few seasons, going down by five, six and even seven goals.

Following the 3-3 draw at Notts County McCarthy said::’We`ve got a difficult start, but I don`t think anybody will be rubbing their hands thinking ‘Happy days, Ipswich are coming here and they`re going to be a soft touch`, because they know we`re not.’

Town finished last season strongly and with 10 summer signings giving the Blues a relatively strong squad, their is a confidence they can be among the promotion contenders.

McCarthy added: ‘We`ll aim for as high as we can possibly finish.

“We`ve got to be aiming at the play-offs.’

A result at Reading would set the tone for the season and Town fans have every right to be optimistic.
