Ipswich Town have been handed another home tie against Northampton Town in the First Round of next season’s Carling Cup.

The two Towns previously met less than 8 months ago, when the Blues met the Cobblers at Portman Road in the Fourth Round of last season’s competition. Liam Davis scored an outrageous opener for the visitors that night before Carlos Edwards, Damien Delaney and Tamas Priskin saw Roy Keane’s side safely through to the quarter-finals.

Ipswich fans may well be hoping for a repeat of last season’s astonishing League Cup campaign, where the Blues marched all the way to the semi-finals and recorded a famous 1-0 first leg victory over Arsenal. Town were narrowly denied a place at Wembley however as Paul Jewell’s first cup game in charge ended with a 3-0 second leg defeat away to the Gunners, who went on to a shock defeat by Birmingham City in the final.

Jewell’s side will kick off this season’s Carling Cup campaign in the week beginning 8 August 2011, most likely on Tuesday 9 August.
