Ipswich started the new season with a 1-0 win against Birmingham as well as with a clean sheet.

Although not the best game to watch there were some good movements, accurate passes and very few hopeful hoofs.

Particularly pleasing were the performances of the new signings – all of whom impressed. The goal was scored by debutant Joe Garner, who battled all game long and deserved his debut goal for Ipswich after an excellent pre-season.

Andre Dozzell impressed in the first half with some nimble footwork and passing and it was such a shame that he had to be driven off injured in one of those extraordinary incidents that look like something off Children’s TV.

We wish him a speedy recovery and let us hope it is not too serious.
What was very heartening though was that young Flynn Downes, who replaced him, had a fantastic match and won the hearts of the crowd.

Captain Chambers had a good game leading the new look team and it was great to have the ever-loyal Tommy Smith back. Much maligned Jonas Knudsen also showed why Mick has kept faith with him.

There were also good performances by Cole Skuse and Grant Ward though Freddie Sears needs longer to sharpen his finishing and reestablish himself as one of our main strikers.

Mick and Terry deserve great credit for some astute signings and for changing the shape of the team and the style of football after so much criticism.

There were no boos today from the nearly 19,000 in the crowd so things are looking better.

So far so good. Well done everyone!
