If You Were The Gaffer Who Would You Pick?

The new football season is less than two weeks away, and if you were in manager Keiran Mckenna’s shoes, who would you pick to start against Bolton at Portman Road?

Of course, a lot can happen between now and July 30th, and the likelihood is that more players will likely come through the door and injuries might also influence this decision. As things stand, we have a strong squad, but the manager can only select eleven players and five substitutes this season. I have 65 subscribers who might have an opinion on this, but I would like to hear from any true blue who wants to air their views. Tell me who you think should enter the field on July 30th?! It’s a strong squad.

Here are the players, and I have highlighted the ones that I think should be in the team and who, I suspect, Kieran McKenna will select, but much will depend on who comes here in the meantime? McKenna is still seeking another forward and a wing-back.

GOALKEEPERS: Christian Walton, Václav Hladky, Nick Hayes.

DEFENDERS: George Edmunson, Greg Leigh, Luke Woolfenden, Matt Penney, Cameron Burgess, Kane Vincent-Young, Janoi Donacien.

MIDFIELDERS: Dominic Ball, Sam Morsy, Lee Evans, Rakeem Harper, Corrie Ndaba, Cameron Humphreys, Matt Ward, El Mizouni, Marcus Harness.

FORWARDS: Kyle Edwards, Wes Burns, Kayden Jackson, Conor Chaplin, Sone Aluko, Freddie Ladapo, Ben Morris, Tyreece John-Jules.

Now the great debate here might be about where you place Wes Burns? Is he an attacking wing-back, an orthodox winger or something in between? The same argument could be made for EL Mizouni and Rakeem Harper who have been used in less conventional positions in pre-season. So then, who would you select for Bolton?
