I Don’t Mind Who Scores Either

Town manager Kieran McKenna said in his pre-match interview that he was not bothered about who came up with the goals. I agree. Just make sure we get some!

McKenna explained his position. “To be fair, I don’t mind who scores. I want us to win the game and I want to score more goals than MK, so it doesn’t matter who scores from my point of view. It’s always about the team and creating chances as a team. Whoever they fall to is not so important to us, as long as we score and get the three points.

After two league games, the goals have all gone to midfielders. Lee Evans, Sam Morsy and Marcus Harness are all on one, so now it is about time some of our strikers step up to the plate. After all,  why they are in the side if it is not to score goals? There will be another big crowd tomorrow at Portman Road, and I have a feeling that this time one of our forwards might do themselves some justice. We cannot rely on our midfield and defence to perpetually help us out, and now our forwards must begin to strike too.

Freddie Ladapo looked good in pre-season and found the net a few times as well, so the onus is on him to get the ball rolling. His goals per game average is pretty good so he is due one. Kayden Jackson has looked sharp when he has been introduced, so I am hoping he gets a few minutes tomorrow – along with the promising young Arsenal loanee Tyreece John-Jules. Sone Aluko and Conor Chaplin have been knocking on the door as well recently, so the expectations are that they will find the net shortly as well.

We drew both games against play-off rivals MK Dons last season so this is our chance to take all three points. They have started badly with no goals and zero points from their first two league encounters, and I suspect that they are probably suffering from last season’s excursions. Many clubs suffer from football hangovers when they get so close to promotion. Confidence will be low and a trip to Portman Road is probably the last thing they need right now. Only a victory will truly satisfy our supporters now.
