There have been a few ‘rumours’ recently that Huddersfield were plotting a move for Ipswich striker Jon Stead, this has been denied by Huddersfield manager Lee Clark though.
Stead’s time at Ipswich hasn’t been that successful since a permanent transfer from Sheffield United last summer, signing for £600,000 after a successful loan spell the season before last, and he spent time away from Portman Road on loan last season.
He career with Huddersfield and a return to his former club has been mentioned, although Clark, as he told The Huddersfield Examiner, has denied an approach being made: ‘Jon’s a very good footballer who made a big impact after moving from here to Blackburn and has continued to score goals ever since.
‘He’s also a player (performance coach) Steve Black knows well, having worked with him at Sunderland.
‘But he is under contract at Ipswich, and if I wanted to speak to any player under contract, I would approach his manager first.
‘That’s what I did with Jordan Rhodes, but I haven’t contacted Roy about Jon Stead.’
The 27-year-old is expected to leave Ipswich this summer though, so this could still be a return to his first club if Clark does decide to make that approach to Roy Keane?
