Have Ipswich Town Got A Bunn In The Oven?

Huddersfield Winger Harry Bunn is the latest name to be associated with Ipswich Town football club and although he is not the out and out striker that we all crave for, he could be a useful addition to an already depleted squad, as the new season approaches.

Injuries and illness has determined that manager Mick McCarthy will go into the encounter with Birmingham on Saturday seriously under strength and after last weeks horror show at the hands of lower league Charlton, these are indeed worrying times to be a Town fan.

The 24-year-old Bunn, who the Blues are reportedly looking to sign in a deal said to be worth in the region of £480,000, was named in the Huddersfield squad that travelled to Schwaz but was conspicuous by his absence and their official website failed to explain why? I hear through a reliable source that he is in talks with the Blues and something could happen before the weekend.

With regard to team news for the game at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon, there is at least some good news on the forward front! Joe Garner and David McGoldrick are expected to pull through, as is our Manchester City loanee Bersant Celina.

With a smaller squad and a lot of absentees, it it imperative that some of our attack-minded players are back in the mix and both Celina and Garner are two of the few who have impressed in pre-season.

It seems highly unlikely that we will have a new number nine installed before the new season begins in less than 72 hours so we will just have to hope that the players on duty play out of their skins and surprise the football pundits!

Former Town favourite Kevin Beattie shared my sentiments on the no-show last weekend and said, ‘Never ever in my era, were we beaten 6-1. Yes, we would lose by the odd goal, but 6-1 is just ridiculous!’

The Beat and his fellow compatriots would never have allowed this to happen because friendly or not, they always gave it their all. They wore their hearts on their sleeves and it was an honour to wear the Town shirt and not just another day at the office.

If Mick McCarthy has any chance of turning this around in the months ahead, then he must instil into the players the importance of being ernest.

Our manager says that he has an ‘honest lot’ so now it the time to prove it and get supporters believing once again.
