Young Player of the Year, defender Kyle Hammond has today penned a 12 month professional contract at Ipswich.

The right back’s first pro deal will come into effect on July 1st, and is a recognition of the progress he made last season, being crowned at our end of season awards ceremony, and the deal also has a further 12 month option.

Hammond is continuing his recovery from knee ligament damage, and admitted that the deal was a ‘dream come true’ for him.

Speaking to the Official Site he said that signing for his hometown club couldn’t have been better for him, as last season was a disappointment owing to the injury he picked up – so this should’ve been a good boost.

‘I’m very happy to sign and it’s come off the back of a difficult season, due to all my injuries. Ipswich is my boyhood team and it really is a dream come true.’

Given the way injuries hit, the Young Player of the Season award would’ve been a very good boost for him, and it does show the progress he had made during his scholarship spell with us, so hopefully he can really kick on now next season when he’s fit again.
