Give The Man A Break

Now, I know that he is tough enough to fight his own battles, but I do think we should give this man a break. I am referring of course to the Town boss Paul Lambert and the cruel way in which some supporters have been calling for his head.

It was the independent supporter’s group Blue Action which started the ball rolling some months ago, and more recently the South West Branch of the supporters club joined in! And Football Insider has thrown more fat on the fire by suggesting that there is dressing room unrest within the ranks of Town’s more senior players.

As far as I am aware, owner Marcus Evans is holding firm in his belief that Lambert is the right man for the job, and only last month, backed his manager amid more calls for him to go by many frustrated Ipswich Town fans.

My own view is that pressing the panic button now – when we are only one point off Peterborough in fifth would be insane. Some of our most gifted players are on the way back, and we all know just how unpredictable this league is anyway. No club is going to run away with the title, and even Lincoln City who lead has played two games more than Ipswich Town.

If we are to get promoted, then we must work together to achieve this, and that means everyone pulling in the same direction. Former Town chairman David Sheepshanks reminded of us this when he said that promotion can only really be realised when everyone is onside. That means supporters, players and management alike.

Paul Lambert was never my preferred choice, but we have made our bed and we must lie in it. Once we open the curtains and arise to a new football dawn, we might just be surprised at what we are about to see!
