Gaffer Wilnis

Veteran defender Fabian Wilnis says he would love to one day manage Ipswich after seemingly catching the coaching bug.

The £200,000 signing from de Graafschap a staggering ten years ago has seen it all with Ipswich – play-off heartache more than once, play-off victory, European football, administration – almost anything you can name, Wilnis would have gone through it at this football club.

The 38 year-old told the EADT: ‘I’d like to move into management one day and my real dream is to manage Ipswich Town. This football club has been a big part of my life for many years.’

However, the Dutchman said he won’t follow in Jim Magilton’s footsteps and move straight into management: ‘I want to work my way up so that I can experience the coaching side before management. But one day I’d love the job here.”

As the old song goes, Fabian Wilnis is a blue and I am sure that he will always be welcome at Portman Road even if he is not offered a playing contract at the end of this season.
