Freddie Sears Can Wipe Away The Tears

It has been a bad few days for Ipswich Town football club but all is not lost. A win tomorrow can change everything and in this crazy Championship division, who knows where this might eventually take us?

I put my money on Sears to score again at Portman Road on Saturday. That is providing Mick McCarthy selects him from the off of course.

Although I had sympathy with his decision to rest Daryl Murphy, who has not been at his very best of late, I could not understand the thinking behind keeping Sears on the bench against Leeds United.

Sears has been on fire since he joined the club and is perhaps the one player that exudes genuine quality in the entire squad.

Yes, I know what you are thinking…what about Daryl Murphy? Well, the truth is he has done it in this league but could not make much of an impression at Celtic and has failed to score at international level so there are still question marks about just how far he can go?

Freddie Sears on the other hand has already proved his worth at Premier level and that was when he was just eighteen!

I liked him then and I like him even more now because like a vintage wine he has matured with time and at 25 is probably still someway short of the peak of his powers as an out and out striker.

Tomorrow afternoon at Portman Road our guru must select him and if he does, then I genuinely believe that the three points are ours against The Bees but as usual, it will not be an easy ride.

Brentford have won three of their last four games whilst we have won one of our last four so this is not a give me.

On the contrary, they are above us in the table as things stand so to reverse this we really must take all three points tomorrow afternoon and I firmly believe we will!

Aiding our cause will be a rejuvenated Daryl Murphy and Teddy Bishop, who will come back in after injury. He could be the catalyst for a change in shape and fortunes and his undoubted wherewithal has been missed in midfield for some time.

A home win is a must and I think we will do it. We certainly need one badly and I just hope that Mick the Man will pack the bench with attack-minded players – just in case things don’t go to plan.

Frank Weston – Vital Ipswich
