Fab Granted Testimonial

Ipswich Town legend and recently retired defender Fabian Wilnis has been granted a testimonial game after serving almost ten years at the club.

The format of this game has yet to be organised and opposition has yet to be arranged, but there are rumours the boys of 1999-2000 will return to take on the current Town XI.

Wilnis, perhaps one of the most popular players to have graced Portman Road, joined Ipswich Town for £200,000 from De Graafschap in 1999 – soon after which he would appear for Town in the Premiership.

The Dutchman, who made close to 300 appearances for Town, won the hearts of the Town fans with his performances in the ‘Old Farm Derby’, earning his very own chant in the process (which I am sure doesn’t require mentioning!).

And Wilnis has absolutely no plans of cutting any ties with Ipswich and even harbours hopes of being able to manage Ipswich Town one day – now that would be special!

A truly great achievement for a truly special player in today’s game where players are regrettably traded like Christmas Cards. Wilnis, unfortunately, is the last of a dying breed.

WELL DONE FAB!!! ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT!!!
