The second round draw for the EFL Cup last night was almost a carbon copy repeat of the failed, confusing and utterly ridiculous errors that took place in the first round draw – I wonder if Carabao as new sponsors regret being associated with idiocy.

Many fans will remember the first round draw back in June, it took place in Thailand owing to it being the home of the new sponsors but clearly ahead of the draw too many took advantage of the hospitality and the supplied energy drinks.

The first round draw had ‘issues` shall we say, graphics supplied from the farcical attempts to hold the draw over the internet saw Charlton Athletic facing Exeter City away from home and Cheltenham Town at The Valley.

It was a good test for Charlton to be fair.

Wimbledon were also showed as being at home to Swindon Town. Wimbledon in fact faced Brentford whilst Swindon faced Norwich.

There were also significant sound issues first time round.

The EFL at the time, as covered by Vital, quickly released a statement.

‘The EFL would like to apologise for a number of third party technical issues that affected coverage of this afternoon`s Carabao Cup Round One draw in Bangkok. There were inaccuracies as a result of human error in the live graphics output, which resulted in confusion and incorrect ties being displayed on screen. In addition, some users did experience difficulties in accessing the stream on certain external platforms. Both issues are currently under investigation.’

Adding.

‘The EFL can confirm that the draw was not compromised in any way and all clubs have received confirmation of their Round One ties.’

Now it can happen once can`t it, Cup draws have only been going on since the early 1900`s but with many saying the League Cup is devalued as a competition, it seems unfortunately that the EFL consider it devalued again as those same errors came to light in the second round draw where you`d have thought they were paying more attention to ensure it didn`t happen twice in a row.

In last night`s draw not only did Sky Sports, Alex McLeish and John Salako not initially appear to understand that West Ham (IAAF Athletics taking place) and Newport County (pitch being relayed) had both been given special dispensation to play their ties away from home, four second round matches were called completely incorrectly when it came to whether a side was home or away.

Quick rule of thumb – the team you call first is home, the second are the visitors…no you complicated that with red balls didn`t you – okay red ball is home – I`m sure even Donald Trump could understand that ‘biggly`. That wouldn`t be ‘covfefe` to him even if everything else flies over that ridiculous hair.

With fans taking the proverbial once again, the EFL look a joke and they wonder why the League Cup no longer seems to carry the weight it did for fans and clubs – are they actively trying to get rid of it like the EFL Trophy with Under 23 Premier League sides featuring over 30 internationals?

Social media has been amazing on this in response, and I don`t mean fans – I mean clubs themselves – that`s how much of a joke this is.

Charlton suggested meeting in the middle before offering.

You get the idea – when club`s combine to remove the urine from you, maybe it`s time to take a long hard look at yourself!
