Now I know what you are thinking here. How can you gauge the football future of Ipswich Town on a result like this?

Surely however, it is not where we finish so much in a league of this nature that is most important but how they are playing and under Gerrard Nash our football fluency has been very pleasing.

I was not sure about his management skills to begin with but as the season has progressed, he has steadily produced a side that plays neat attractive football and although Coventry were there for the taking yesterday, it is still a nice way to end their campaign.

Two goals from England youth striker Ben Morris and two more from Flynn Downes racked up a good score and there were goals too for Adam McDonnell and Australian forward Ben Folami.

Certainly Ben Morris is showing plenty of promise up front and he finished the season on a very creditable 16 strikes so it should really only be a matter of time before he makes the first team.

But Morris is not the only one to impress and I particularly like Irishman Adam McDonnell and Flynn Downes.

Yet given the collective performances of all of them in this emphatic win, it is a little unfair to single out individuals.

Keeper Michael Crowe for example, was also in fine fettle and his quick reactions ensured that the Blues kept a clean sheet.

With two games to go of the Championship season, I really do hope that one of two of these players get a chance to impress at a higher level. It is unlikely that manager Mick McCarthy would start any of them but a place on the bench would be just reward for their endeavours I believe.

I know that McCarthy wants to be fair to the both Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest who need the points for entirely different reasons but there would be know harm in including a few on bench warming duties – if only to make them feel they are making progress.
