Defender Danny Gabbidon has confirmed he rejected offers from Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest to sign for Crystal Palace.

The 33-year-old was a free agent after being released by Queens Park Rangers over the summer, and Vital Football revealed Town’s interest in him.

Instead he joined the Eagles and explained to the Croydon Advertiser: ‘I wanted to go somewhere I could enjoy myself with a good bunch of lads, enjoy my football again and work with a good manager.

‘I had offers from Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest, who wanted me to go up and train with them, but it just didn’t seem right with Forest as I wasn’t sure they were totally committed and interested in me really.

‘I worked with Lennie Lawrence from when I was at Cardiff and Dougie is young, fresh and has good ideas.

‘And I like the way they both complement each other, so I think Palace was the best option for me all round.

‘I’ve made a good decision and I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club so far.’
