Daryl Murphy Cements His Time At Town

There has been much speculation since last season ended that Daryl Murphy may end up at another club.

Even today Middlesborough were said to have upped their bid for a third time and close to what was deemed as the club’s evaluation of the player, which was said to be around 5 million pounds.

But all the rumours and counter rumours were in vain, as our leading scorer signed another two year deal with the Tractor Boys today, which will take him to the summer of 2017 and once again the blues,we have been reliably informed, have an option of another year if needs be.

It would have been a sad day in the life of Ipswich Town football club if we had lost a forward who is at the very peak of his condition and although 27 goals will be a hard act to follow, if he stays clear of injuries then he could come close again.

It also strengthens our hand in terms of attacking options and if David McGoldrick stays around and remains fit for a change then we have a very exciting season to look forward to!

Brett Pitman will get us goals and so too will Freddie Sears and it is hard to think of another Championship side with such strength in depth up front these days so it all bodes well.

Some cynics among us might argue that Murphy will find it impossible to replicate the goal scoring feats of last season and of this there is little doubt. That said, he will continue to get us vital goals and he is not just a goalscorer remember but someone who creates too!

At the ripe old age of 32 it could also be argued that he cannot sustain his exceptional form for too much longer but Murphy is a late developer and is rarely injured and the fact that he is now considered by many as number one choice for Ireland further strengthens his hand in the striking department!

From a personal point of view, I am really delighted with this news. He loves it in Suffolk and never once suggested that he was eager to move to pastures new.

Obviously if a big Premier club came knocking he might have other thoughts but this contract extension should keep the wolves from the door for now at least.

Daryl Murphy has constantly proved his doubters wrong over the years and now we can look forward to more of the same from our Irish saviour who has found the knack of terrorizing defences with his wealth of skills and superior mental and physical strength.
