Ipswich winger Darren Currie has flown out to America for a two week trial with David Beckhams new side, Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy, managed by former Town favourite Frank Yallop, have just returned from a pre season training camp in Bermuda, and are set to step up preparations for the start of the new MLS season, which begins on April 8th against Housten Dynamo.

Currie said: “It’s a two-week trial. No more than that at this stage and I will see how things develop from there.

“I have always thought about the possibility of playing abroad and this is a great opportunity for me to see how football works somewhere else.”

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve had a great time at Ipswich, met some fantastic people but with my contract up in the summer, it looks like I will be moving on.

“This season has been a difficult one for me because for long periods I have not been playing and any player will tell you that it’s all about being out on the pitch.

“Jim Magilton has been great to me though and said he wouldn’t stand in my way if I wanted to go over to Los Angeles and see what’s going on.”
