Countdown To Bournemouth Has Begun!

The countdown has begun to the Bournemouth game at Portman Road on Good Friday and I await this one with anxious anticipation!

The news today is that top goal scorer Callum Wilson is likely to miss out for The Cherries; having already dropped out of the England under 21 squad for the game against Germany last night, due to an injury he sustained in the 3-0 Bournemouth win over fellow promotion rivals Middlesborough.

From the Town’s perspective this is probably something of a relief as he has scored 19 goals already this term.

The bad news is that it will open the door to another lethal striker in Kenwyne Jones. He has already proven his premier pedigree with Stoke City and Sunderland before moving to Cardiff, from where he has gone out on loan to the Sky Bet Championship leaders until the end of the current season.

Ipswich have injury concerns of their own though and what is particularly worrying is the fitness of Jonathan Parr who is still struggling with a hamstring injury and looks set to miss out.

Tyrone Mings will definitely miss out as he is serving the first of his two game ban for clocking up ten bookings. He will also not be available for our Easter Monday clash with Huddersfield away.

This is perhaps why Mick McCarthy is so pleased to get Zeki Fryers through the door because he is a player who has impressed even at the highest level of football when he plied his trade with both Manchester United and Spurs and he is still only 22!

Further good news is that Jonny Williams is back with us but with his limited playing time of late, he will not be included in the starting line-up on Friday that’s for sure.

There may however be a place for David McGoldrick – or even Darren Ambrose, as they are both coming back from lengthy injuries and are training again we are told.

In the light of who were are up against a draw would probably be seen as a reasonable point but with home advantage I do hope Mick McCarthy is brave and goes for a three man attack.

If McGoldrick is fit enough to start then he could play him behind Freddie Sears and Daryl Murphy in a diamond formation.

Knowing the way the gaffer thinks is never easy though and if he manages to fool us every week then there is every chance he will fool the opposition too!

Luke Varney impressed against Watford, as of course did goal hero Richard Chaplow and they too will be hoping to get selected or at least if not, find a place on the bench.

The Bournemouth game is live on Sky Sports One and we are due a good performance in front of the camera’s again so here’s hoping that this is the one that catches the eye and we get that vital win!
