Complacency Is The Blues Greatest Threat

I am getting more and more concerned. Seven out of the last eight matches have ended in draws and if it had not been for our Polish keeper Bartosz Bialkowski we might have been in an even worse state I fear.

Now if you listen to manager Mick McCarthy he will try to convince us that any point is a good point but we are surely way beyond that point now!

We need to start winning games and this is especially true at Portman Road where we have drawn our last four home matches.

In fact, our last victory at Portman Road was way back on January the 14th, when we narrowly defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-2 and after that we lost 0-3 at home to Derby County so there is nothing that resembles a fortress going on at our place at the moment.

I am also a bit concerned about the complacency that seems to exist at management level – assuming it is business as usual.

We know Mick McCarthy sees the funny side of most things but to joke about the only thing he has stolen from Oakwell in his life was that point on Saturday, appears to trivialise the seriousness of our current position, which is deteriorating week on week.

Unless McCarthy starts to take these Championship games more seriously I am fearful that we will find ourselves dragged into a last gasp relegation dog-fight and although it might make a mediocre campaign a bit more exciting, it will be for all the wrong reasons that’s for sure!

The hope is that Jonny Williams and Teddy Bishop will bolster our creative options and I do hope he gives Brett Pitman more than a poultry four minutes when we visit Wales next Saturday.

I suppose the one thing that grates with me more than anything else about McCarthy, is his ultra negative strategies. Yes, I know we have reverted to a 3-5-2 formation of late but he still persists with players who are quite frankly uninspiring.

We do have quality in the squad, if he would allow them to breathe and express themselves but he seems obsessed with making do with a point and telling us every week just how good the opposition were.
