Chopra Charged With Race Fixing

Just when it looked as if Michael Chopra was getting back on track, both on and off the pitch, he, and Ipswich Town face more strife.

Chopra, along with eight other people, including jockey Andrew Heffernan have been charged in connection with race-fixing by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA).

Chopra and four others have been charged with offering bribes to Heffernan, a former British licensed jockey now riding in Australia.

Three other people have been charged with other breaches of the rules of racing, the BHA have announced.

Ipswich paid off a large gambling debt by Chopra so he could play without having it on his mind after being threatened by heavies.

The former Cardiff, Sunderland and Newcastle strike had been undergoing treatment for his gambling addiction but this latest set back will not help him being focused on football.
