Captain McAuley ‘Honoured’

New signing Gareth McAuley says it was an honour to wear the captains armband on Wednesday night against Gillingham.

McAuley is favourite to be named full-time captain at Portman Road since Jason De Vos retired at the end of last season. The £1.1 million man has already succeeded De Vos in being given the number four for next season.

McAuley skippered Leicester for parts of last season and Town boss Jim Magilton has already insisted that he has no qualms about handing the armband to a new signing.
