Can We Maintain Our Unbeaten Run?

We are unbeaten since our narrow defeat at Peterborough and have lost just once in our last five encounters, with three draws and one memorable victory. This was when we did the double over Blackpool, thanks to goals from Luke Woolfenden and a stunner from Alan Judge.

Tonight is an entirely different proposition, however,  as we travel to Humberside to face Hull City. Their form is a little indifferent just now, and this might give us some hope.  They currently sit in third place in the table and only three points off leaders Lincoln but have lost two and drawn two of their last five matches. At Portman Road in November, former Blue Mick Mills was less than impressed. Although they came away with a 0-3 victory that night, it was a deceptive result. They created few chances but unlike ourselves, scored every time they seemed to attack!

We go into this game unbeaten in two and if we could nab another point this evening, it would be a very encouraging result. In their last home encounter, the Tigers lost 0-1 to Milton Keynes Dons, who are level on points with Town, so you never know. What we are lacking most of all, is what we have lacked all season, and that is goals. We have managed to score just 30 goals in 27 league games, and this is an appalling state in itself. I remain positive about Troy Parrott and James Norwood working well together and scoring goals. There is an understanding there that will only get better with time, and the sooner Parrott breaks his duck, the better for everyone!

It was interesting to see that exiled pair Kayden Jackson and Jon Nolan played for Ipswich U23s this afternoon, along with Armando Dobra, who scored from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw with QPR. It is nice to see that they are getting some game time, but they still seem some way off any first-team action.  And young 21-year-old Tristan Nydam was also involved I see!

I would expect manager Paul Lambert will stick with the same defence that did so well against Oxford United. This would mean that Toto Nsiala and James Wilson would retain their centre-half berths. I hope so anyway because they were both outstanding at Portman Road. I suspect that both Andre Dozzell and Teddy Bishop will start, and there may be places too for Alan Judge and Keanan Bennetts. In attack, it surely has to be James Norwood and Troy Parrott again, but the manager might include a fit-again Gwion Edwards from the outset too.

Very heartening and deserved away win against the mighty Tigers. Funnily enough, said to my Leicester-born son who is also a lifelong Town fan , that I thought we would play well at Hull and draw 1-1 after conceding a 97th minute equaliser. So important to get that win against a top team – a team incidentally who have been our bogey side for years.
3 games unbeaten now and nil goals conceded. Just five points of 6th placed Doncaster with a game in hand.
As luck would have it, our next opponents at Portman Road on Saturday.
Must sustain the recent momentum and beat them
