Can Ipswich Town Make A Point At Loftus Road?

Given our splendid start and the injury crisis we have faced from day one of the new football season, a point away at Loftus Road on Saturday, would be more than satisfactory.

We all know the Mick McCarthy mantra about a point away always been a good point but on this occasion at least, it would be.

There are some encouraging signs with regard to injuries but not in the case of Luke Hyam, who has taken another knock and is once again out of the first team picture.

I think on Saturday we might see a bit more of Bersant Celina, who has not started a Championship match so far but is currently knocking heavily on the door and scored an outstanding goal for the under 23 team, as they defeated Sheffield Wednesday away recently 1-2.

He has all the natural attributes of a forward thinking player and if he can get involved, he is the kind of player who can get bums off seats!

I think new recruit from Everton Callum Connelly will have to be content with a place on the bench and I do not expect manager Mick McCarthy to change much from our defeat to Fulham at Portman Road.

David McGoldrick missed out on some more caps with the Republic of Ireland, as his wife was close to giving birth but now she has and he can focus his mind on playing for Town at the weekend again.

Loftus Road is a small intimidating place to go and that is why I believe we will do well to get anything from this encounter.

Ian Holloway’s side are always up for the fight and with home advantage they will be determined to start on the front foot.

Queen’s Park Rangers full back James Perch will not be playing any part in proceedings though, as he will be out for several months with a dislocated kneecap and fellow defender Joel Lynch has a hamstring problem, which might also keep him out on Saturday.

As far as I am concerned I would happily take a draw from this one and anything more would be a real bonus.

As Mick McCarthy often says, ‘Whatever you do, don’t lose,’ and after our wonderful start to the season, that is exactly my thinking at this moment in time.
