Local press reports claim that Ipswich Town are closing in on a loan deal for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews.
Andrews joined Blackburn after an impressive spell with MK Dons, whom he helped to the League Two title in 2008 having netted 19 league goals in 78 appearances. Having previously been a regular at Blackburn with 65 league appearances in his first two seasons at Ewood Park, the 30-year-old appeared to fall down the pecking order last season having featured in just 5 league matches.
Reports in the East Anglian press this morning suggest that Ipswich manager Paul Jewell is looking to tie up a season-long loan deal for Andrews, who has been capped 20 times by the Republic of Ireland. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has also been targeted by Leeds and Nottingham Forest, but the Blues could seal his signature in the next 24 hours.
Town have been in need of another midfielder following the departure of loanee Jimmy Bullard at the end of last season. The 32-year-old has reportedly been told to stay away from Hull City following a recent two week suspension, prompting some rumours that the Blues could swoop for him should his contract with the Tigers be terminated or paid off. However, the possible acquisition of Andrews combined with the signing of Lee Bowyer in July seems to suggest that Bullard is no longer part of Jewell’s plans.
