Ipswich Town have finally completed the signing of Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews on loan until January 2012 with a view to a permanent move.

Former Milton Keynes Dons star Andrews had been expected to move to Portman Road some time ago after reports emerged last week that Ipswich and Blackburn were in discussions over a possible deal. Town manager Paul Jewell had previously expressed his frustration about a lack of communication from Blackburn which prevented him from tying up a deal for Andrews in time for the new season, but the 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international will now be available for Saturday’s home match against Hull City.

Andrews told the Club’s Official Website: “I spoke to a couple of clubs but after speaking to the manager and the owner here, everything seemed right and it was an easy decision to make.

“It seems as if the club is going places and I think Ipswich is going to challenge in terms of promotion.”

Jewell told the local press he was delighted that Andrews chose to move to Portman Road: “He’s a leader, tough, and an international player. He was injured last season quite a bit, but his hunger to come here has really impressed me. He could have just sat on some good wages in the Premier League, but he’s desperate to play games.

“There was a lot of interest from Championship clubs in him so I’m delighted he`s chosen to come here.”

Andrews becomes Town’s eighth signing of the summer with Jewell expected to make further additions to his squad before the end of August. There could also be further departures however, with reports in Hampshire claiming that Andrews’ arrival at Portman Road will oil the wheels for Grant Leadbitter to leave the club and rejoin his former midfield colleague David Norris at Portsmouth. Earlier in the week, Chief Executive Simon Clegg had revealed that Ipswich were considering an offer made for an unnamed Town player, with Leadbitter possibly one of the club’s more saleable assets from the Roy Keane era.
