Defender Christophe Berra has said that Ipswich have a great chance of promotion next season as long as we keep progressing like we have this year.

Finishing 2013-14 in ninth place, and only four points shy of the last play off spot, it represents our joint highest ever finishing position in the Championship matching what Jim Magilton did back in 2008-09 when he took us to within one point of the play offs and an eighth place finish in 2007-08.

Speaking to the Official Site Berra said he believed we had every chance to better that in 2014-15 but we must keep progressing at the rate we have this season to do so.

‘We were disappointed we didn’t make the play offs. We’ve got to take the positives out of the season and use them though. The manager came in here and changed things around. The fans are coming back and if we can make the same progress next season that we made this year, we will have a great chance of achieving something.’

Berra, our Player of the Year for last season, went on to say that he’s been told there was a certain amount of ‘doom and gloom’ around the club a few years back but that’s certainly not the case now and he really does credit manager Mick McCarthy for the change around saying he’s really ‘picked the whole place up.’
