Christope Berra has signed a two-year deal with Ipswich and so ending any chance that Titus Bramble will rejoin the Blues.

The 28-year-old Scotland international will provide competition at centre-half and ends the need to take South African Bongani Khumalo on loan from Spurs.

Berra played under Blues boss Mick McCarthy at Wolves and was instrumental in the better days McCarthy enjoyed at Molineux.

‘it’s a fantastic signing,’ McCarthy told the BBC, ‘He helped us get promoted at Wolves and keep us in the Premier League for two seasons.

‘I’m surprised he hasn’t got a club sooner and delighted we’ve got him. It’s terrific for us.’
