Being Frank On Ipswich

I suppose you could call this a match review. I have my own website called Being Frank On Football, so I thought it would be a good idea to departmentalise this theme.

Yesterday, Town probably did not play as well as they had against both Cheltenham and Morecambe, but they did come away with all three points, and it is perhaps the only thing we will remember in the long term. The pitch was poor and was not conducive to playing intricate football, but somehow Town overcame the odds, and their slick passing was again apparent throughout this encounter. I was surprised to see that in Andy Warren’s player ratings for the EADT he only gave Joe Pigott a very average 6, and yet, I was very impressed with him yesterday, and not just because of that very near miss on the stroke of half-time. His hold up play was outstanding, and he had the intelligence to lay off balls to his teammates with a fair degree of technical ability for a big man. He is an intelligent player and this was his best performance in a Town shirt for me.

I was delighted to see captain Sam Morsy getting on the scoresheet with his first goal for the Blues, and he was pivotal to our success at Highbury; keeping hold of the ball in tight areas and pushing forward with conviction once he found space in front of him. In the unlikely event that we do make the top six, it is vital he stays fit and on the pitch! I agree with Warren that he was our best player yesterday but Joe Pigott came a close second, and this opinion seems to be shared by the Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna who said he was outstanding yesterday.

It was pleasing to see Kayden Jackson scoring again in a Town shirt. He worked tirelessly throughout and came face to face with former Blue Toto Nsiala, who, in fairness, performed well. Jackson was also responsible for the goal that decided the game when he expertly ran through onto a clever Bersant Celina ball, before rolling it through the legs of the onrushing Cods keeper. It was an excellent finish, and I am genuinely pleased that he continues to prove his doubters wrong!
