You wait all day for a bus – after a string of away ties, Ipswich Town’s progress is rewarded with a second home draw on the trot as West Bromwich Albion travel to Portman Road in the Quarter Finals of the Carling Cup.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side are no strangers to Town having been regular Championship opponents over the last decade. History does not exactly favour the Blues though – the Baggies have won 6 of their last 8 league meetings against Ipswich, scoring 21 goals in that time, and now come to Suffolk having had a surprisingly strong campaign so far back in the Premier League. Town fans can take some hope though, with the Baggies failing to register a win on their last two visits to Portman Road, most recently in a 1-1 draw in January.

Though still a tough proposition, West Brom are not the biggest team left in the competition and Roy Keane will be pleased that his team are to play this cup tie in front of their home fans again for only the second time in his 18-month tenure as manager. It must be said though that the Blues have had a somewhat fortunate draw up to now, with the 3rd Round trip to Millwall the stiffest test having played 3 lower league sides in all other stages of the competition. As the only non-Premier League team left in the Carling Cup, Ipswich will have a lot of work to do to prove that they are worthy of being in such company.

The tie will be played in the week beginning 29 November, either on Tuesday 30 November or Wednesday 1 December.

How do you feel about the draw? Is that the end of our cup run, or do you think home advantage against such opposition gives us a real chance of progression to the semi-finals? Have your say here at Vital Ipswich:
