There has been a lot of talk that David McGoldrick might be on his way in this window but any interest that was shown seems now to have faded and it looks as if he will see out this season with us.

At 30 years of age and soon to be out of contract,Town were hoping to cash in on his past glories and remember, it was not that long ago that Leicester City bid 7 million quid for a player that the Blues can’t seem to give away these days.

But Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes is set to move on loan to League Two leaders Luton for the rest of the season and this should help his football education.

Playing in front of much bigger crowds than at under 23 level, and in a squad that is going places is an ideal learning curve for the promising midfielder with lots of potential.

And young striker Monty Patterson has left Ipswich Town to join Wellington Phoenix on loan for the rest of the season. The New Zealander, who has already been capped a number of times for his national team, should benefit to from a change of scenery.

News is coming in that Ipswich are close to agreeing a deal with winger Mustapha Carayol on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest. He is currently out of favour at Forest and interestingly their current boss Aitor Karanka, also off-loaded him when he was managing Middlesbrough so eyes will be raised here!

The forward certainly has pace and an eye for goal but he is much travelled and at 29 seems to find it difficult to stay in the same place for very long, which could suggest that his temperament is found wanting?

The deal at Forest was due to expire this summer but both parties have decided to cancel the contract early to allow the winger to find a new club and it looks like Ipswich could be his next destination, after spells with Torquay, Lincoln and Bristol Rovers in the lower leagues before his move to Middlesbrough in 2012.

Whether this transfer goes through or not, is still open to conjecture but one deal that has been finalised today is the acquisition of highly-rated youngster Kai Brown. The deal was confirmed by Grays this afternoon and a lot of Premier League clubs had been eying his progress of late so it is perhaps surprising the 16 year old has chosen Town ahead of the rest.

And finally, Ipswich Town are set to complete the signing of Neymar look-alike 19 year old Barry Cotter this evening, and the young Irishman has flown over from Ireland to complete a medical ahead of his move to Portman Road.

The deal is said to be worth in excess of £50,000 and it is hoped his transfer from Irish side Limerick goes through before 2300 hours tonight when of course the transfer window slams shut again.
