All Together Now

Former Chairman David Sheepshanks recalled what made Ipswich tick the last time we had success. “It’s a team game from top to bottom.”  How right he is, and although we rarely see him around the place these days, his love affair with Ipswich Town football club lies undiminished. I always liked the man, and he was the beating heart of the club under George Burley. Things have moved on since then but some things never change.

Success remains a team game, and it starts with our overseas owners and trickles down to the guys and girls who follow the Blues fervently around the country. We are all in this together. It needs every cog in the wheel to move in the same direction, and this is the recipe for a period of prolonged momentum. We are beginning to sense it again.

That fascinating interview with Jason Schechterie on you tube spoke volumes about the family community that is an intrinsic part of the club. Since Mark Ashton became CEO there has been a marked improvement in our connection with local people, and the club’s desire to get everybody involved is part of this success story. You might ask, what we have achieved and I would say it is bringing everybody on board. The manager and his players are playing there part as well, and it is not always about what goes on when they enter the fray. From the ball boys and girls to the match day stewards, it is a team game and everybody wants to play their part in it. It’s about a collective team spirit and Ed Sheeran has added a new and delightful dimension to it!

I have never felt so good about the health of our club for a very long time. It is if every piece of our jigsaw puzzle is fitting together perfectly, and let’s not forget the magnificent part the supporters have played in all of this. Manager Keiran McKenna has provided us with the kind of football that people want to see. He has revived our enthusiasm for the beautiful game, and the attendances at home are testament to this.
