All Change For Ipswich Town At Luton Tonight

It always seems to be the case that when Ipswich face inferior opposition in a cup competition these days they tend to be defeated.

It always seems to be the case too that manager Mick McCarthy fields an inferior side!

At least the players know what they are up against this evening when they take on Luton in the first round of the Carabao Cup at Kenilworth Road and for a refreshing change, this looks like a pretty strong squad – although it is sad to hear today that youngster Andre Dozzell has indeed incurred cruciate ligament damage, which might keep him out for the rest of the season.

Luton annihilated Yeovil having gone a goal down, with a thumping 8-2 victory last weekend and I just hope the Blues have analysed closely film footage from that encounter because the scoreline was no fluke – even if some of the goals they scored would be rather hard to repeat I would have thought.

Luton will of course go into this one full of confidence and if the Blues are to end their poor showing in cup competitions to lesser opposition, then they must pull out all the stops.

The good news however is that new signing Martyn Waghorn has been cleared to face The Hatters tonight and he will be one of a number of changes from the victors who disposed of Birmingham.

In goal we can expect to see Dean Gerken and at wing back Myles Kenlock should get a look in along with Adam Webster and I suspect captain Luke Chambers. Dominic Iorfa may take the other wing back berth, as he seems in need of a bit more game time.

In midfield I would expect to see Flynn Downes start alongside perhaps Tristan Nydam and Cole Skuse will probably play too just to steady the ship. Grant Ward might be rested and if this is the case and McCarthy ops for another midfielder then Luke Hyam or Adam McDonnell might come in.

Up front there should be places for Bersant Celina and perhaps Danny Rowe, if he chooses to complement the team with two wingers.

The strike force will probably be David McGoldrick and Martyn Waghorn but the bench should be strong with Freddie Sears, Joe Garner, Emyr Huws and Bartosz Bialkowski just some of the squad members who have this time been designated to warm the bench.
