What former Ipswich legend and Talksport pundit Alan Brazil has to say on our upcoming season…

Ipswich were unlucky last season not to make the top six. Towards the end of the season they dropped too many points. They still have enough quality in the squad to be effective again this season. They have brought in some decent talent in the summer transfer window; Digby, Blanchfield and Ward have all been brought in to bolster the squad.

McCarthy`s biggest task this season will be to maintain a good level of performance. Last season the team were exceptional some weeks but below par the next. Consistency in this league is crucial to being effective and making the top six. Already this season they`ve won one and lost one; the team needs to get a few wins under their belt early on so they are not playing catch up later on in the season.

There are a lot of competitors this season that will be hunting for the massive prize of promotion to the Premier League. The sides that came down last season, Villa, Newcastle and Norwich will all be looking to fire themselves back to the top flight. Then there`s the likes of Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby who missed out in the play-offs last season who will be going for it again this season.

At Bet on Brazil Ipswich are priced at 40/1 to win the league or 20/1 to get automatic promotion. Obviously this would be ideal for the club, however a 9/2 shot for them to make the top six looks like a good bet. Being on the cusp of the play-offs last season will give the club that extra bit of hunger to make sure they`re involved at the end of this campaign. Can they get promoted? It`ll be a big achievement if they do. It`s one thing to land in the top six, but to come out on top of the play-offs is a different task. They can be backed at 10/1 to get either go up through the play-offs or automatically.
